$2.7M for settling inmate suits OK’d
Los Angeles County supervisors have approved $2.7 million in payouts to settle negligence and civil rights lawsuits involving former jail inmates, including one who died from a health problem.
The Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to pay $1.26 million in settlement money and legal costs to Franklin Silva, whose foot was amputated in 2005 after a toe infection spread.
About $670,000 will be settle a negligence suit by the family of Michael Buford, 32, who died from emphysema complications.
Supervisors also approved $800,000 in payments to Darryl Titus, who sued for false imprisonmen after he was falsely linked to car vandalism.
