3 people injured in early morning crash on Malibu Canyon Road
MALIBU Three people were injured in an early morning crash on Malibu Canyon Road that closed the thoroughfare in both directions during the rush hour.
The four-car collision occurred on Malibu Canyon Road just south of the first tunnel near Pacific Coast Highway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Villalobos.
Motorists were detoured onto Piuma Road during the aftermath. The road was reopened about an hour and a half after the 8 a.m. accident, Villalobos said.
Two hours later, CHP officers were still on scene investigating the cause of the accident, and it was unknown whether all the cars involved were traveling in the same direction or if one or more of them crossed over the center divider, officials said.
Inspector Frederic Stowers of L.A. County Fire said medics at the accident scene asked for a helicopter to transport the injured but due to foggy weather, the patients were taken to an area hospital by ambulance instead.
Condition, age and gender of the accident victims was unknown.
