Bicyclist hospitalized after Irvine accident
A 45-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries this morning after colliding with a car at an Irvine intersection.
Police say the accident occurred just before 7 a.m., when a 71-year-old man driving eastbound on Irvine Center Drive collided with the female bicyclist, who was crossing the intersection.
The extent of the bicyclist’s injuries are not yet known, Irvine police Lt. John Hare said. Emergency personnel treated her at the scene before taking her to a nearby hospital, Hare said.
The bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Hare said. The driver was not injured.
Authorities are investigating the accident, and have not determined the cause.
