Boy, 11, dies after falling and hitting head on sidewalk

ANAHEIM – An 11-year-old boy visiting from Arizona with his family died after he fell and hit his head on a sidewalk, police said.

Police got a call shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday regarding a boy who was unresponsive in the 2000 block of South Harbor Boulevard, said Anaheim Sgt. Rick Martinez.

The boy and his family were walking back to their motel after having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Martinez said. According to the police report, the boy was running ahead of his family, fell, and hit his head on the sidewalk, he said.

The boy was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was pronounced dead, Martinez said.

An autopsy is planned for Monday to determine what happened.

The boy was visiting from Kingman, AZ, with his father, mother and 13-year-old sister.
