Child struck by car in Fillmore, airlifted to hospital
A young boy was airlifted to a local hospital this morning after a neighbor inadvertently backed a car into him when he chased a ball into the street near his Fillmore home, authorities said.
The incident was reported at 8:18 a.m. in the 600 block of Boulder Street.
The childs mother reported that she was watching him in their front yard when he lost the ball he was playing with, followed it into the street before she could react and was struck by a vehicle, said Capt. Frank OHanlon of the Ventura County Sheriffs Department. The neighbor who inadvertently struck the child stopped at the scene, said the captain.
The boy was awake and alert following the accident, OHanlon said.
Authorities decided to fly him to a local hospital by helicopter out of an abundance of caution, in case he had internal or head injuries, said the captain.
