CHP officer hurt in chain-reaction crash
A California Highway Patrol officer was injured in a chain-reaction crash on the northbound 241 toll road Tuesday afternoon.
The officer was at the scene at Santiago Canyon Road at about 4:40 p.m. after he was dispatched to a disabled vehicle call, said CHP officer Denise Quesada.
Quesada said the officer was inside his vehicle when the driver of 2009 Nissan was traveling at an unknown rate of speed and veered out of control.
Quesada said there are two possible scenarios. The Nissan either struck a disabled Mercedes, causing the Mercedes to hit the patrol car or the Nissan crashed into the patrol car which then struck the Mercedes.
The officer was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with moderate injuries. The driver of the Nissan suffered major injuries and was also taken to Western Medical Center.
