Crash involving 9 vehicles scatters debris all over freeway
As many as nine vehicles have been involved in traffic collisions this morning at the southbound 5 freeway at Red Hill Avenue and just north at the 5 and 1st Street, causing debris to fall all over the freeway and forcing lane closures, the California Highway Patrol said.
Just before 6 a.m., the CHP received a report that a tan Nissan Maxima and another vehicle were on the right shoulder of the 5 and Red Hill.
Other reports indicated that a red Chevrolet SUV, a black Honda Accord and three other vehicles were somehow involved, the CHP said.
At 6:07 a.m., the CHP got word of another multi-vehicle crash, this time at the 5 and 1st Street.
The CHP closed lanes near the Red Hill incident to remove debris.
An ambulance was called for the first incident but the extent of possible injuries was immediately reported.
