Driver hits trick-or-treater, then flees
A 14-year-old girl is showing signs of recovery after suffering a head injury and broken bones in a hit-and-run accident while trick-or-treating in Riverside Halloween night, police say.
“She had regained consciousness and was taking to medical staff,” Lt. Andy Flores said of the child’s condition.
Lt. Chuck Griffitts said police found the girl unconscious in her Halloween costume after she was hit by a pickup at Jamestown Drive and Lincoln Avenue, across Highway 91 from California Baptist College.
The girl was crossing the street about 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses said a silver pickup didn’t brake or slow down before striking the girl and then immediately sped away after impact.
The girl was hospitalized with a head injury and broken bones from the crash. She was listed in guarded condition.
