Family and friends to walk in honor of Cara Lee
Friends and family members are honoring the memory of Cara Lee, a 20-year-old who was killed by a drunken driver in February, during a Mothers Against Drunk Driving event next month.
Nearly 60 people are part of the “In Loving Memory of Cara Lee” team to participate in the MADD 5K Walk on May 8 in Huntington Beach and are planning to donate a portion of proceeds to the walk.
Cara Alexandra, 20, of Santa Ana was a part-time college student, aspiring model and recreational leader for the city of Newport Beach.
She died when a driver suspected of driving drunk crashed into a car she was riding in on Valentine’s Day in Costa Mesa.
Officials said Gustavo Vega, 22, had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system after he crashed into the car carrying Lee and her friend Hao Nguyen.
Lee’s death devastated her family and friends, who described the young woman as a bright girl with a brighter smile and zest for life.
Ruby’s Diner is also holding a fund-raiser in memory of Lee. Those who also visit the diner, 3333 Bear St., Suite 120, Costa Mesa, from April 26 to 29 can mention the fundraiser and have 20 percent of the bill donated.
Community members can purchase shirts no later than 7 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at www.ryan-cabrera.com/amy/CARASHIRT.html.
