Fatal Crash On I-10 In El Monte Snarls Traffic

A deadly crash just before rush hour snarled the westbound San Bernardino 10 Freeway for thousands of commuters in El Monte Wednesday.

Police say a Lexus slammed into the center divider, and then rear-ended a tanker truck in a Caltrans work zone.

The crash was reported at 2:37 a.m. on the 10 Freeway at Garvey Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin said.

The motorist, who was killed, was identified as 28-year-old Joshua Ruiz of Alhambra.

Drivers were being diverted off the westbound 10 Freeway as four of the lanes were closed while coroner investigators examined the crash scene.
