Head-on Torrance collision sends 2 to hospitals

A head-on crash in Torrance forced the shut down of Torrance Boulevard today and sent two people to hospitals, police said.

The crash occurred at 8:45 a.m. near Cabrillo Avenue, Torrance police Lt. Bernard Anderson said.

A pickup truck traveling east crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a flatbed truck carrying a load of lumber, Anderson said.

The pickup’s driver was taken to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with serious injuries. The other driver was taken to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, police said.

Police said officers are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Torrance Boulevard was closed for the investigation.
