Kaiser hospital, doctor sued over alleged sex assault

A female patient of a doctor criminally charged with sexually assaulting the woman and other patients filed a lawsuit today against Kaiser Permanente, accusing the medical group of failing to fire the doctor sooner despite prior assault complaints.
Jessica Moran, 32, of San Juan Capistrano, is an alleged victim of David Hung Do, 39, of Garden Grove who is charged with sexually assaulting Moran and two other female patients in Orange County under the ruse of performing medical exams.
Moran accompanied by her mother — went to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim on June 22, 2008 because of a strained neck from a car crash. When examining her neck, Do inappropriately touched her breasts, according to Moran’s lawsuit.
“I couldn’t believe what was happening,” she said in an interview today. “He’s a doctor, and doing this to someone who is hurt? My mother was even in the room.”
“When you go in to see a doctor, you go in blind, and trusting,” she added.
Moran said she confronted Do, who denied the act. She later called police.
Moran said an investigator later told her that Do also assaulted two other female patients — both whom had called Kaiser to report the incidents.
“We acted quickly to suspend him from patient contact after a complaint was brought forward,” according to Kaiser’s statement on Do released today. “He was then terminated. We reported him to authorities and have cooperated in their investigation.”
Do, who was a part-time physician, was terminated from Kaiser shortly after his December 2008 arrest. The alleged assaults occurred between July 2007 and June 2008. He next appears in court on Aug. 31 for a pre-trial hearing.
