Man, 86, dies in freeway crash

“Motorist was thrown from car after hitting another vehicle, CHP says.”

ORANGE – An 86-year-old driver was killed Saturday when his sedan hit another vehicle on the 55 freeway and flipped several times down an embankment, throwing the motorist out of the car and into a nearby parking lot in Orange, authorities said.
The crash happened on the southbound 55 south of Lincoln Avenue at about 9:16 a.m. Saturday when the Yorba Linda man, driving a 1998 Honda, tried to change into the fast lane and hit a 2005 Ford driven by a 22-year-old Anaheim man, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
The Ford spun out and stopped in the No. 1 lane as the Honda careened out of control, through a guardrail and down an embankment, said the dispatcher.
The Honda’s driver was pronounced dead at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
The driver of the Ford was not injured.
