Motorcyclist ejected, strikes rock, killed
A 22-year-old Apple Valley motorcyclist died yesterday a day after he crashed a Harley-Davidson in Hesperia, according to San Bernardino County deputy sheriffs and coroners investigators.
Shawn Tyler Safford suffered head and facial injuries during the 4:36 p.m. accident Monday along the 18700 block of Lilac Street, sheriff’s deputies said in a written statement.
Safford was riding at high speed when the motorcycle drifted onto a sandy shoulder of the road, flipping Safford over the handlebars. His face struck a large rock, according to the statement.
Safford’s dad administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to coroner’s investigators.
