One dead, one hurt in crash into tree

One person died and another suffered critical injuries before dawn today when a car hit at least one tree along Highway 60 in Glen Avon, according to the California Highway Patrol website and Riverside County Fire Department officials.

The red Nissan crashed at 1:22 a.m. on the Country Village Road off-ramp from the freeway’s eastbound lanes, according to initial reports..

Fire crews had to cut the survivor free of the wreckage. The rescue effort and crash cleanup kept the off-ramp closed until shortly after 4 a.m.
