Sheriff: Girl killed in Lake Forest crash wasn’t ejected
“The coroner is expected to confirm her identity through dental records today.”
The Orange County Coroner is reviewing the dental records of a 9-year-old Lake Forest girl killed in a crash on Sunday.
Her identity is expected to be released later today.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino, earlier reports of the girl being ejected from the black Chevy Tahoe she was riding in were inaccurate.
“She was wearing a seatbelt and sitting next to the door with her head leaning out of the rolled-down window,” Amormino said Tuesday morning. “She was not ejected from the car.”
The driver of the Tahoe, the 27-year-old boyfriend of the girl’s aunt who was also riding in the car, laid her onto the ground outside the car after the accident, witnesses reported.
The accident happened as the Tahoe and a black BMW were driving westbound on El Toro Road near Pino. The driver of the BMW 325 changed lanes from the No. 2 lane to the No. 3 lane clipping the left front of the Tahoe with his right rear, Amormino said.
This caused the driver of the Tahoe to lose control and spin into a nearby light pole.
Police are investigating unsafe lane changes and possible speed.
The BMW’s driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
