Student stabbed this morning; high school locked down

LA HABRA – Sonora High School was put on lockdown for two hours after a student was stabbed around 7:40 a.m. today, police said.

The 17-year-old victim was stabbed outside of a classroom by a 17- to 19-year-old male who has not yet been identified, police said.

The student was reportedly taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Police said that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The school was put on lockdown while police searched the area for the attacker. Detectives stayed on campus interviewing students about the incident, but no arrests have been made yet, police said.

Kevin Ruschman, a senior at the school, said he came to campus when his little brother text-messaged him about the stabbing. Students have been keeping up with developments through Facebook, he said.

Marina Kelterborn, the mother of a freshman and a sophomore at the school, said she saw the news helicopters on her way to the school and thought it must have for Octomom.

“It was very frustrating not getting word from the school,” Kelterborn said. “We should have been given updated status reports.”
