Two die in wrong-way crash
Two people were killed today and three others were seriously injured in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way motorist who was allegedly driving drunk on the Highway 91 in Anaheim, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on the eastbound freeway east of Highway 55, said California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada.
One person died at the scene and another died at a hospital, Quesada said. Their names were withheld pending family notification. Three other people, including the wrong-way motorist, were hospitalized with serious injuries, Quesada said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect was driving west in the eastbound lanes when the crash occurred, Quesada said. The name of the suspect was not immediately released.
Two eastbound lanes were closed until 5:45 a.m., Quesada said.
