Two injured in rollover in Irvine
IRVINE – Two people were taken to the hospital with head injuries after a rollover crash early Thursday morning on Walnut Avenue, police said.
The driver, Daniel Stirewalt, 23, of Irvine, was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Around 2:30 a.m., a green Toyota Tacoma pickup headed east on Walnut failed to neotiate a curve near Kazan Street, hit the center median, and then overturned after striking the curb on the opposite side of the street, Lt. Joohn Hare of the Irvine police said.
Stirewalt was able to exit the car on his own, but heavy rescue equipment was needed to cut open the truck to get his passenger out.
Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment of head injuries.
