Woman dies after being struck by car

WESTMINSTER – One woman is dead and another wounded after they were struck by a Nissan sedan on Newland Street near 15th Street Thursday evening, according to police.

The two women were crossing to the west side of Newland Street outside of a crosswalk when they were hit by an 18-year-old female driver headed south in a Nissan 200 SX, Sgt. Richard Mize said.

Police were notified one of the women died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, while the other remains stable, Mize said.

Mize said the women were crossing just north of 15th Street and stepped out from in front of a stopped vehicle, which may have impeded the driver’s view. Both women were taken to UCI Medical Center.

The names of the women have not been released.
