Woman dies in head-on collision
A 54-year-old Moreno Valley woman died last night after a head-on collision in that city, according to Riverside County sheriff’s officials.
Cynthia Rose Whitaker died at Riverside County Regional Medical Center less than 45 minutes after the 6:30 p.m. wreck Wednesday along Cottonwood Avenue, about 100 feet east of Festival Way.
Whitaker was driving a blue Ford Explorer that crossed into oncoming eastbound traffic and struck a silver Nissan Quest minivan.
“According to independent witness statements, (she) swerved to the left to avoid colliding with a lowered, black two-door Honda that was wearing in and out of traffic,” Sgt. Jacqueline Horton said in a press release.
A passenger in the Explorer suffered a broken right ankle, according to the press release. The driver of the minivan complained of chest pain.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it may call traffic investigators at 951-486-6900.
