Woman Shot Dead At UCI, Father Of Child In Custody

Police said a woman was shot and killed in a parking lot at the University of California, Irvine, and the father of her child is in police custody.

Irvine police Lt. John Hare said the woman in her 30s and the man began arguing in a graduate housing complex Sunday night and the dispute continued into the parking lot, where the woman was shot several times.

Hare said the woman later died at a hospital, the man was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered.

He said it was not clear whether the couple were married, but they had a child together.

It was also unclear whether either was a student.

Hare said it is the first-ever homicide on the U.C. Irvine campus.
