OC man leaps to death from 15 Freeway transition to 91 in Corona

A Rancho Santa Margarita resident jumped to his death early Friday, July 13, from the transition road from the 15 Freeway to the 91 Freeway in Corona, the California Highway Patrol said.

Gregory Powell, 42, died from the injuries he suffered when he landed on the dirt shoulder of the eastbound 91, Officer Dan Olivas said.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the flyway from the northbound 15 to the westbound 91 about 4:15 a.m., Olivas said. As officers approached, they saw Powell standing outside the vehicle. When Powell saw the patrol car approach, he vaulted over the concrete railing, Olivas said.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office listed the time of death as 4:43 a.m.
