Surfers flip over Dale Velzy surf festival at Doheny State Beach
It’s a delicate dance on the water.
Catching a wave is hard enough. But try doing it with two people balanced on one surfboard. Then, have one person try lifting up the other and flipping them around, doing acrobatics in the air while surfing a wave toward shore.
The Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau on Saturday put a rare form of surfing on display, with tandem surfers entertaining crowds at Doheny State Beach.
The event started early in the morning with a surf contest, then went into the night with a festival and luau put on by the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association.
