Eva Kilgore: From boutiques to boo-tiques, there’s plenty to shop for around town in October

by in News

I visited the new dusk.boutique last week, and was delighted. It has an on-trend selection of clothing, jewelry, shoes and accessories displayed thoughtfully and creatively. Lots of fall colors. And the staff is extra nice.

I am planning to go back and get several sweaters (and a cool turquoise ring) as holiday gifts. It’s definitely worth a visit.

The boutique is in Huntington Beach at 714 Adams Ave., Suite 106, near Beach Boulevard. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday. Information: duskboutique.com

Preparing for Halloween?

Halloween Bootique is open and stocked with costumes, masks, accessories and creepy home decor. Dreaming of being a princess this Halloween? A pirate? An evil clown? You’ll find what you need to achieve your Halloween dream right here.

They have costumes galore for infants, children, men and women. Make sure to visit the back room — that’s where you’ll find pumpkins with hideous faces, and many more items to scare the neighbors.

Halloween Bootique is in Huntington Beach at 17881 Beach Blvd. near Talbert Avenue. Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Information: shophalloweenbootique.com

The Beehive

Join the fun at a big Halloween party at The Beehive from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. There’s going to be a hot dog eating contest, drink specials, and some surprises that night.

You could win the costume contest and take home $100.

The crowd is always up for a good time at the no frills sports bar, and Halloween should be no exception. They’re even starting the party early, with bartenders wearing costumes every day this month.

The Beehive is in Huntington Beach at 6431 Edinger Ave. near Edwards Street. Information: 714-892-5777.

Experience Fountain Valley

Join members of the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce at their Experience Fountain Valley event Thursday, Oct. 4 at Fountain Valley City Hall.

Take a tour of City Hall, find out all about Fountain Valley Chamber Awareness Month, sample foods from Fountain Valley Restaurant Association member restaurants and have some wine and sangria.

Among the participants are The Black Bean, Cambalache, Tastea, Spoons Grill & Bar and Sizzler. You must purchase a $5 wristband from the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce for food and drink.

It’s from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Fountain Valley City Hall, 10200 Slater Ave. near Ward Street. Wrist band information: 714-962-3822.

Speaking of Spoons

I mentioned Spoons Grill & Bar as one of the participants at the Experience Fountain Valley event. I just found out firefighters, police officers, military personnel and Fountain Valley City officials receive 20 percent off food purchases at Spoons Grill & Bar all day, every day.

There are burgers, Mexican food selections and more here.

Spoons Grill & Bar is in Fountain Valley at 17550 Brookhurst St. near Slater Avenue (inside the Ayres Hotel). Hours: 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; noon to 10 p.m. Friday; closed Sunday. Information: spoonsoc.com or 714-861-5173.
