Duke is a dashing Staffy boy
Breed: Staffordshire terrier (blue nose)
Age: 8 years
Gender: Neutered male
Duke’s story: Duke was rescued off the streets of Hawthorne. He was found, curled up in a ball, almost unrecognizable as a dog. He was living in deplorable conditions with no access to regular food or water. Upon arrival he was sick and emaciated, had an eye infection that caused temporary blindness, and could barely walk due to a back injury. He looked to have been severely abused and neglected. He spent three weeks at a veterinary hospital where he received intravenous fluids, antibiotics, nourishing food and medical treatment his skin and eyes, as well as x-rays to determine what was going on with his spine. He then came to Doggie Bonez. He was still sickly and weak, but his eyes held light and hope, and it was evident he was going to make it. He continues to see a vet for his skin and eye infections. He gets weekly walks, where he is coming to life. He is engaging, loving, affectionate and getting stronger. His coat has turned from a dusty brown to a gorgeous silver gray. His eyes are clearer, and he loves short walks, belly rubs and dips in the kiddie pool. Duke will require ongoing medical care for his back discomfort. Acupuncture, cold laser treatments and herbal medications have been effective, as he is not a surgical candidate. He does best with a soft diet as he lacks a full set of teeth with which to chew. This will require regular dental checkups. Despite all his problems, Duke is the most loving dog and has so much love to give.If a forever home is not available, a foster for Duke would be so helpful in guiding him to his full potential.
