Santa Ana police looking for additional victims after after-school instructor charged with sexual assault

by in News

After a 23-year-old after-school instructor was arrested on suspicion of sex crimes involving three girls, a fourth came forward and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office believes there may be more.

Eddy Bustamante Infante has worked at Greenville Elementary School in Santa Ana since 2015. He was arrested at his home on Friday and booked into Orange County Jail on multiple child abuse charges. His bail was set to $1 million.

Infante posted bail and was released over the weekend, but was arrested again when a fourth girl came forward alleging she was also a victim. Infante’s new bail was set at $5 million.

The attorney’s office said Infante was charged with four lewd acts upon a child under 14-year-old and sexual assault of a child 10-year-old or younger. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 75 years in state prison.

Officials said Infante is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old between August 2015 and June 2017 and sexually assaulting a 10- and 8-year-old between August 2016 and June 2017. All were students under his care. The first alleged victim came forward on October 4, 2018, and Infante was arrested again Wednesday when an additional alleged victim came forward.

Infante is scheduled to appear in court at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana on Oct. 19.

Law enforcement believes there may be additional victims and asked for anyone with additional information to call Sana Ana Police Department Detective Jessica Guidry at 714-245-8530 or Orange County District Attorney’s Office Supervising Investigator Eric Wiseman at 714-347-8794.
