Those on campus of Capistrano Valley High School Thursday afternoon, Oct 18, were told to take shelter in the gym and theater building after a domestic violence incident occurred just a block away.
The area near the Mission Viejo high school was searched by deputies for at least two hours after the incident — which involved the suspect possibly armed with a knife — occurred about 4 p.m. in the 28000 block of Boleada Stree, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Wayne Rehneld.
The suspect is described as a 28-year-old man with a shaved head and is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was last seen wearing boxer shorts and a burgundy sweater with the word “Oceanside.”

He fled in the direction of the school, according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, so people on campus to attend after-school events were ordered to take shelter at about 4:40 p.m.
CVHS student Nicole Tarantino, 15, said she was about to go to the school to perform in an evening choir recital when friends told her via text and social media to stay away from the area. She was told that, by 5:30 p.m., people were still being told to hold their positions on campus, and helicopters were circling.
By 6 p.m., people were allowed to exit the buildings, however a suspect was still at large, according to Braun.
No additional details were immediately released.
