Suspected shoplifter shot to death at Hollywood Walgreens
HOLLYWOOD — A suspected shoplifter was shot to death by a security guard at a Hollywood Walgreens drug store, authorities said Monday.
The shooting was reported about 8:10 p.m. Sunday at the Walgreens at Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street, Officer D. Orris of the LAPD Operations Center said.
The man became involved in a fight with the security guard, who fired on him, Orris said. The man was believed to have been shoplifting when he encountered the security guard, police told reporters at the scene. He was shot in the upper body, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Orris said.
Homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting, he said.
The security guard has not been arrested in connection with the shooting, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relation’s Section.
