2 dead in Santa Ana after motorcycle-involved crash
A crash between a motorcycle and car in Santa Ana left two dead on Wednesday afternoon.
Corporal Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department said the crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. on Raitt Street, between McFadden and Edinger avenues.
“The man was driving the motorcycle south on Raitt Street, and the woman was making a U-turn in a Dodge Charger from north to south on the same street when the crash happened,” Bertagna said. “Both vehicles caught on fire.”
Orange County Fire Authority said it removed the woman from her car when officials arrived at the scene.
“Citizens jumped in after the crash and pulled the motorcyclist away from his bike,” Bertagna said. “Other citizens with hoses put the fire out.”
Bertagna said the 35-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 40-year-old woman was transported to a local trauma center with serious injures and burns, where she later died.
Police were investigating the crash to determine who was at fault, he added.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
