Supporters hold ‘paddle-out for justice’ in memory of Betty Lou Lamoreaux, Orange County’s first female Superior Court judge
Family, friends and supporters of the late Betty Lou Lamoreaux, the first female Superior Court judge in Orange County, donned leis and gathered for a three-mile walk from the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange to the Orange County Superior Court building in Santa Ana on Thursday, Jan. 3, to honor Lamoreaux, who died in November at age 94. They were also there to call for reform in the probate system, which marred the final years of her life.
“This is our version of a paddle-out, a paddle-out for justice,” said Lamoreaux’s nephew, Duff McGrath, of Bonsall.
In memory of Lamoreaux, the documentary “The Guardians,” which explores allegations of corruption in the Nevada Guardianship and Family Court systems, will be shown at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Performing Arts Center at Clubhouse 3 in Laguna Woods.
