Fisherman pulled from waters of Dana Point Harbor, is pronounced dead
Paramedics retrieved a man from the waters of Dana Point Harbor and pronounced him dead on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
A man in his 50s had been fishing on the harbor’s East Jetty with a group of friends who lost sight of him sometime in the morning, according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. She said the group of fishermen later spotted the man’s body floating in the harbor and called dispatchers to report his possible drowning at about 9 a.m.
Emergency responders pulled the individual out of the water and onto a boat, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz. The man’s identity was not immediately released.
The man’s death did not appear to be suspicious, but investigators were looking into the matter, said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Todd Russ. He said homicide detectives were not asked to respond to the incident.
