Students at Yorba Linda school sheltered as 5 suspects in nearby burglary were sought, arrested
Students and staff at a Yorba Linda elementary school were told to shelter in place as sheriff’s deputies searched for suspects in the burglary of a nearby residence on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
The precautionary measure was implemented at Fairmont Elementary School at about 8 a.m., according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. She said the order was lifted at about 9 a.m., after deputies found and arrested five suspects in a nearby residential burglary on the 5000 block of Wagon Wheel Drive.
Deputies initially took four people into custody, said Braun. She said a woman was later observed entering a vehicle believed to have been involved in the burglary and arrested. Authorities believe there are no outstanding suspects, said Braun.
One of the people arrested Wednesday was bitten by a K-9 unit and treated for minor injuries, but no other people were hurt, said Braun.
