San Clemente man facing murder and assault charges

A 28-year-old San Clemente man has been charged with murder and assault on a child in connection with the death of a young girl, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Christopher Recio was arrested on suspicion of killing the 17-month-old girl on Jan 5 in the city of Orange. Prosecutors said Recio killed her by causing blunt force trauma to her head.

Prosecutors charged Recio with two felony counts – one murder count and one count of assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death.

Recio is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 8. He is being held on $1 million bail.

Law enforcement is still investigating the case and did not release additional details.
