Paragliders who collided and died in San Diego County were men from Laguna Hills and Carlsbad
Two men who collided mid-air while paragliding in San Diego County on Saturday, March 9, were identified by the county Medical Examiner’s Office as residents of Carlsbad and Laguna Hills.
Laguna Hills resident Raul Gonzalez Valerio, 61, and Carlsbad’s Glenn Johnny Peter Bengtsson, 43, both died after they crashed into each other above the Torrey Pines Gliding Port, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Both hang gliders became tangled together and fell into the side of a cliff, the office said.
The collision happened at about 2:40 p.m. at the La Jolla cliffside launching point that is popular with paragliders and hang gliders.
Valerio and Bengtsson died at the scene.
