Strong winds take down trees and scattered power outages are reported in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties
Strong winds Tuesday night downed some trees in the Los Angeles area and there were assorted power outages in the region.

The California Highway Patrol log showed that at 7:29 p.m. a fallen tree was blocking some lanes of the westbound 10 Freeway at Crenshaw Boulevard in Central Los Angeles; and a SigAlert was issued for three lanes. All lanes reopened by 10 p.m., the CHP said.

By about 11 p.m., the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was dealing with outages scattered throughout the city affecting about 35,000 customers.
Most affected neighborhoods were south of the Hollywood Hills.
“LADWP crews are currently working in difficult, high-wind conditions and will work throughout the night and tomorrow to restore power as quickly and safely as possible to affected customers,” a utility statement said.
Customers were told to expect to be without power for between 12 to 24 hours. Some outages could be restored much quicker, while others may take longer, the DWP said.
Southern California Edison, in the meantime, said 6,949 customers were affected by 29 outages in Los Angeles County as of about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. Another 2,024 customers were affected by 14 outages at that time in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, SCE said. The utility said just 70 customers were without power in Orange County.
And Glendale Water & Power crews dealt with a wind-related outage in the Verdugo Woodlands area. Power there was restored, the utility said at 10:34 p.m.
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts late in the afternoon of 44 mph in both Malibu and at the Van Nuys Airport.

The winds in Southern California are expected to continue into Wednesday morning, gusting to 70 mph in the mountains and foothills.
