Soka University’s International Festival draws thousands to Aliso Viejo

ALISO VIEJO — More than 6,000 people flocked to the 130-acre campus at Soka University on Saturday, May 4, for the 18th annual International Festival. Guests meandered through dozens of exhibits, indulging in such dishes as Indonesian satay, Thai meatballs and Indian dosa while taking in the sights and sounds of some 500 musicians and dancers performing on four stages.

About 30 nations were represented at the festival, said Wendy Harder, director of community relations for the university.

“My favorite kind of festival is when I get a chance to try new foods and see new cultures and really talented performers,” Harder said, adding that the performances were not only fun, they were on a professional level.

Proceeds from the event go to the Soka Education Fund.
