Memorial Day race honors Camp Pendleton’s Darkhorse Marines
Thousands of runners came out Monday, May 27, to participate in Memorial Day races to benefit Camp Pendleton’s Darkhorse Battalion.
The longest of the runs — a half-marathon — traveled a course from Laguna Hills, through Laguna Woods, Laguna Woods Village, Aliso Viejo and into Laguna Niguel before ending at the Laguna Hills Community Center. A finish line expo, celebrating Darkhorse Marines and Gold Star families, was held at the center after the race. In 2018, the race raised about $10,000 for Team Darkhorse, a community group that supports the 3rd Battalion/5th Marines, adopted by Laguna Hills in 2008.
This year’s Grand Marshall was U.S. Marine Major Thomas Schueman.
