Bus dashcam captures suspect stomping on man in Buena Park

Authorities sought the public’s help in identifying a suspect seen stomping on the head of a 65-year old man in Buena Park and leaving him unconscious in the street in dash-cam footage captured Wednesday, June 12.

Part of the assault was recorded near a bus stop at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue, Buena Park Police said Thursday in a news release.

The suspect allegedly got into an altercation with a man and pushed him to the ground. The dashboard mounted camera of an Orange County Transit Authority bus caught the attacker repeatedly kicking and stomping on the victim’s head.

“Witness statements and video footage shows that the assault was clearly one-sided,” police said in the release.

Police found the victim unconscious on the pavement at about 8:15 a.m. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Buena Park Police Sgt. Mike Lovchik said.

The man was later placed into a medically induced coma, and remained in treatment Thursday evening. His name was not made public.

After the assault, the suspect stole the victim’s red bicycle and traveled east on Orangethorpe, police said. He was described as a 5 foot 10 inch tall white man who was possibly between the ages of 25 and 35 with a large build and light hair that was worn in a bun. He had some facial hair and was last seen wearing glasses and a green and grey sports jacket with “Converse” embroidered on the front and the number “8” on the back.
