Officials: Drunken woman arrested at LAX after tossing chair at police officer
A drunken woman at a restaurant at Los Angeles International Airport was arrested Monday after tossing a chair at a police officer, authorities said.
Officers were summoned to Terminal 1 at about 2 p.m. after bartenders refused to continue serving an intoxicated patron, Los Angeles Airport Police Department spokesman Robert Pedregon said.
She became upset when police asked her to leave, and demanded that the responding officer carry her luggage.
When he refused, she “went off of the deep end,” Pedregon said. “She grabbed a chair and threw it.”
It struck the officer, but he was not injured.
Police placed their hands on the woman to restrain her and get her into a patrol car, but no use of force took place, Pedregon said.
Four officers and one supervisor responded to the incident, officials said. A social media report stating that the suspect was slammed to the ground and taken into custody by nine personnel was inaccurate, Pedregon said.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division station, Pedregon said. She was expected to be booked on suspicion of public intoxication, and possibly for assaulting a police officer.
Her name was not immediately released.
