Torrance woman killed in Bahamas shark attack

A Torrance woman was killed in a shark attack in the Bahamas on Wednesday, according to television news reports.

Jordan Lindsey, 21, of Torrance, died after she was attacked by three sharks while snorkeling with her family,  said  Paul Rolle, deputy commission for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, ABC7 reported.

“Jordan was 21 and such a great daughter and person,” her father Michael Lindsey said in a statement to ABC News. “We already miss her terribly.”

The attack took place near Rose Island shortly after 2 p.m. The sharks severed one of the woman’s arms, also biting into her legs and buttocks, police told Local 10 News, a TV station in South Florida.

Lindsey’s parents said they saw the sharks approaching and yelled to warn her, but she didn’t respond in time, police told ABC News. Lindsey, a  Loyola Marymount University student, was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

Lindsey’s family has set up a GoFundMe page and hopes to raise $25,000 for the transportation of her body from the Bahamas and for funeral expenses.

The attack had a ripple effect on social media with several posting about the incident. One user, who said his sister was on the boat with Lindsey’s family during the attack, said he believed that one of the sharks was an eight-foot tiger shark.

Police were not immediately available to offer comment on the attack.

In 2018, Katarina Zarutskie, an Instagram model raised in Laguna Beach, posted photos of a shark biting her  wrist while on vacation in the Bahamas.
