What’s open and closed on July 4th in Orange County

by in News

Across Orange County, residents will be at celebrating America’s independence with barbecues and block parties, playing at the beach or the local park and an evening of watching fireworks, either at home or at one of the many free community events planned.

But if you are looking to knock some chores off your to-do list, you might want to call ahead to make sure you won’t be met with a closed sign.

Here are some of the things that will be closed on Thursday, along with what might be open.

  • Government offices will be shut down for Memorial Day, though law enforcement and emergency services will remain on duty.
  • Post offices are closed and mail will not be delivered.
  • Most trash hauling services don’t work on the holiday, so trash pick up will be delayed a day for the rest of the week.
  • Most banks will be closed. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed.
  • Local libraries typically close for the holiday.
  • The Orange County Transportation Authority and Metrolink will run on a normal Sunday schedule. Metrolink is offering a  $10 discount good for unlimited rides throughout the system.

Many businesses, especially shopping spots, will be open – and discounts and sales will be abundant. But many close early, for example South Coast Plaza, Brea Mall and MainPlace Mall will be closing at 6 p.m., while the Irvine Spectrum will close at 7 p.m. and the Outlets at San Clemente at 8 p.m.
