2 charged in killing of man in Huntington Beach

SANTA ANA — Two defendants were charged Wednesday with murder in the death of a 23-year-old man gunned down in Huntington Beach this week.

Patrick Michael Jones, 35, and Cassey Alatorre, 28, made their initial court appearances, but their arraignment was rescheduled for July 26 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.

Both defendants are charged with murder, and Alatorre additionally faces a sentencing enhancement allegation for the personal discharge of a firearm.

The victim’s name has not yet been released as investigators are working to notify his family, Huntington Beach police Officer Angela Bennett said.

Officers found the victim after responding about 3:55 a.m. Monday to a report of a gunshot in the 16700 block of Viewpoint Lane, according to Bennett.
