Dogs ready to be reunited with owners after fireworks-filled holiday
A smile spread across Tristan Goode’s face as she was reunited with her dog, Nova, at OC Animal Care’s shelter in Tustin on Friday, July 5, after a tear-filled night of worry.
“I would just be devastated if I didn’t get her back,” said Goode, 32, of Fullerton. “She’s part of my family.”
Their’s was a happy ending in the fireworks-fueled influx of dogs that were brought to the shelter over the Fourth of July holiday. As of Friday at noon, more than 40 dogs had been checked-in since the morning of July 3.
Bob Mullinax, of Yorba Linda, wasn’t so lucky as he searched the kennels for his dog, Kali, who escaped Thursday evening after he and his wife left to walk over to see a local fireworks show.
“We found out we were doing some things right, as far as searching on social media. I went to all the local groomers this morning. The next thing is to print pictures and hang them up locally. Otherwise, it’s just a waiting game to see if someone turns her in,” said a tearful Mullinax of the medium-sized, 8-year-old, black-and-white Australian shepherd.
“We’re all pretty sad,” he said. “She’s a great dog. Great with the grandkids. We just need to find her.”
