How to help Ridgecrest and Trona residents following 2 major earthquakes

by in News

After two major earthquakes in as many days, the communities of Ridgecrest in Kern County and Trona in San Bernardino County are coping with the aftermath.

During a Saturday morning, July 6, news conference, public officials addressed the need for support. Right now, following emergency declarations and recovery efforts underway in San Bernardino and Kern County, monetary support is what’s most needed, they said.

Please do not bring supplies, they said, that would require handling by workers needed elsewhere.

Here’s how you can help:

• Monetary donations are necessary at this time, officials said during the news conference. “Cash donations really are the best right now” so they can be distributed as needed, Mimi Teller of the Red Cross said during the news conference. The link is available at Redcross.org/donate.

• The Ridgecrest Police Department was collecting bottled water Friday night, July 5, for residents of Trona. A facebook post late Friday, says that those who are able, can drop off cases of boxed or wrapped water at the department, 100 W California Ave., Ridgecrest. A trailer will be on site in the east parking lot and they will then deliver the water to Trona residents.
