Man holding metal object is shot, injured by Tustin police after attempting to break in to former military base building
A man was shot and injured Tuesday by an officer after Tustin police responded to reports of several people attempting to enter a building at the former U.S. Marine Corps Air Station, authorities said.
Police responded to the base, in the area of Armstrong and Valencia Avenues about 8 a.m. and found one of the people armed with a metal object, Lt. Andrew Birozy said.
“An officer-involved shooting occurred and officers immediately rendered first aid,” Birozy said.
Paramedics took the man to a local hospital where he was being treated, Birozy said.
The investigation was ongoing and police said there is no danger to the community. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office was conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
The building the people attempted to enter was not one of the iconic blimp hangars, Birozy said.
