Family members charged for Disneyland brawl that went viral
Three adults were charged with crimes on Tuesday for their suspected roles in a brawl early this month in Disneyland’s Toontown that went viral after a park-goer recorded and posted it to social media.
Avery Desmond-Edwinn Robinson, 35, of Las Vegas is facing five felony charges and nine misdemeanors for attacking his girlfriend, sister and brother-in-law and endangering four children, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday, July 23.
Prosecutors said that the confrontations did not end with the recorded melee.
When the family was escorted to a Disneyland parking structure, Robinson threatened to kill his sister and her husband by simulating a gun with his hand and pointing at them, prosecutors said.
Further, they said, he tried to hit an employee with a car.
Robinson faces one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury, and one felony count of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury related to the attack on his girlfriend, prosecutors said.
He is also accused of felony assault with a deadly weapon, two felony counts of criminal threats, five misdemeanor counts of battery and four misdemeanor counts of child abuse and endangerment.
He faces more than seven years in state prison if convicted. He was arrested Saturday and booked into Orange County Jail, authorities said.
“The Orange County District Attorney’s Office does not tolerate domestic violence or child endangerment anywhere,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement.
Robinson’s sister, Andrea Nicole Robinson, faces four misdemeanor charges of battery for attacking her brother Avery, his girlfriend, and a Disneyland employee, prosecutors said. The 40-year-old Compton woman faces one misdemeanor count of assault for attacking her brother’s girlfriend, prosecutors said.
If convicted, she could serve two and a half years.
Andrea Robinson’s husband, Daman Petrie, 44, faces one misdemeanor count of battery for punching Avery Robinson’s girlfriend in the face, prosecutors said. If convicted, he faces six months in jail.
Petrie and his wife were not in custody, said Kimberly Edds, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office.
It was unknown what prompted the July 5 fight, but the video shows that it involved about six adults who authorities have said are all family members.
Avery Robinson appears to be at the center of much of the conflict in the four-minute-plus video. At various times he appears to hit women, and he also confronts another man as children in their group and other park guests watch.
“I’m ready to go to jail tonight!” Robinson is heard saying on the video.
Prosecutors said he referenced a Southern California gang.
Several park guests repeatedly stepped in, trying to stop the violence. Multiple men ended up taking down who appears to be Avery Robinson by putting him in a chokehold shortly before security arrived.
Anaheim police officers who responded to the incident initially did not see the video. They took a report but the family was uncooperative.
The next day, detectives saw the video and opened up a criminal investigation.
