Star fire, started after bird struck power line in Chino Hills, now 80% contained
A large bird set ablaze when it came in contact with the high-voltage lines of a power pole fell to the ground and started a 156-acre blaze that burned a Chino Hills home and was 80 percent contained on Monday, authorities said.
There had been earlier reports that a transformer on a power pole might have caused the Star fire, but Chino Valley Fire District and Southern California Edison determined there was no transformer on the pole, the district said in a tweet.
The bird fell into dry grass.
Three firefighters were injured by bee stings while fighting the fire on Sunday afternoon.
Two were treated at the scene and one was taken to a hospital. Massiel De Guevara, a spokeswoman for the district, said on Monday there was no public update for the third firefighter.
