Man accused of beating woman along trail in Irvine charged with attempted murder
SANTA ANA — Attempted murder and other felony charges were filed Tuesday, July 30, against a 28-year-old man accused of attacking a woman on a trail in Irvine.
The 30-year-old victim was walking along the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, near Jeffrey Road and Irvine Boulevard about 10 p.m. Saturday when she was in a collision with Tyler Glenn Collier, who was riding a bicycle, according to Kim Mohr of the Irvine Police Department.
“Whether he hit her on purpose or not” is undetermined, Mohr said.
The woman, who was knocked down, was then beaten by the suspect until witnesses intervened and stopped him, Mohr alleged.
Collier was arrested at the scene, she said.
Collier, who’s being held on $500,000 bail, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment and battery with serious bodily injury, with sentencing enhancement allegations of inflicting great bodily injury.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was taken to an area hospital, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, Mohr said.
Police were looking for additional witnesses or video from area home surveillance cameras, Mohr said. Anyone with information helpful to the investigation was asked to call detectives at 949-724-7168.
