by in News

A pedestrian was fatally hit by a state park vehicle Tuesday night, July 30, near Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Beach.

Police were called just before 10 p.m. about the crash on East Coast Highway and Reef Point Drive, said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Heather Rangel.

The pedestrian was hit by an on-duty state parks truck and was pronounced dead at the scene, Rangel said. The crash also closed off both directions of the road for about seven hours, police said.

The victim’s name has not been released by authorities. It was unknown if the pedestrian was crossing the street at the time of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, Rangel said, adding that no arrests have been made.
